From$995/month3, 6 or 12-month campaigns

  • Minimum 2× DR 70+ links
  • Zero PBNs or link farms
  • Permanent links, no ongoing fees

What is HARO link building?

Reactive, editorial, earned.

Every day, journalists publish requests when they need a quote, expert commentary, an industry insight or a practical example. HARO link building means answering those requests on your behalf: concise, relevant, written in your voice. It’s a form of reactive Digital PR, and the opposite of buying links.

What it is

  • Reactive. We respond to journalists who are already looking for expert input, rather than cold-pitching stories.
  • Editorial. A reporter decides whether your answer earns a place in their article, and how to credit you.
  • Earned. Coverage comes from being useful to the journalist. Nothing is bought, swapped or inserted.

What it isn’t

  • Guest posting or sponsored articles
  • PBNs, link farms or link insertions
  • Anchor-text-controlled link building
  • Guaranteed placement on named publications

If a journalist chooses your response, coverage follows. If not, it doesn’t. That uncertainty is exactly what makes earned coverage credible.

How journalist-source outreach works

From one good insight to a journalist’s story.

Follow a single expert answer from your business to a reporter’s desk and into a live article, and see where the journalist’s independent decision sits in a campaign with guaranteed link minimums.

01Your expertise

It starts with what you genuinely know.

We build a spokesperson profile with you: credentials, the topics you can speak to with authority, and the opinions you’re comfortable putting your name to. That profile is the filter for everything that follows.

One expert, one business, real experience.

02A journalist asks

A reporter needs a source, today.

Journalists post requests for expert input on HARO and similar platforms every day. We review them against your profile and keep only the ones where you are a credible, genuinely useful answer.

Most requests are not a fit. We skip them.

03A careful pitch

A concise answer, written in your voice.

We research the angle and write a quote-ready response: specific, helpful to the journalist, never salesy. It goes out before the deadline, after whatever approval you’ve asked for.

Individually written. No templates.

04Their decision

The journalist chooses who to quote.

Editors decide which sources make the article, where you appear and how the link is written. We don’t pay for placement — which is exactly why these links carry weight. We can’t pick the publication or the day it goes live.

Independent editorial judgment is what makes it credible.

05Guaranteed links

Quote by quote, your link floor fills up.

Every published link is verified — source, DR and link type — and counted toward your package’s guaranteed minimum: 5+, 10+ or 30+ editorial backlinks, all from DR 30+ websites. If the floor isn’t reached within the booked term, we keep working at no extra cost.

Not every response is used. That’s why we guarantee the total, not each answer.

What we do for you

The whole outreach desk, handled.

You bring the expertise. We do the daily work of finding, filtering, writing, coordinating and reporting, so you only spend time where your input genuinely matters.

  1. 01

    Request monitoring

We check HARO and similar journalist-request platforms throughout the working day for requests that match the topics you can speak to.

  2. 02

    Opportunity filtering

Each request is judged on relevance, outlet quality, editorial intent and realistic chances. We skip anything that wouldn’t reflect well on you.

  3. 03

Research & writing in your voice

Concise, quote-ready responses with specific insight, written as you: founder-led, brand-led or expert-led, never salesy.

  4. 04

    Approvals

Facts, figures and opinions are checked with you according to the approval mode you choose, so nothing goes out that you wouldn’t say.

  5. 05

    Submission & deadlines

Pitches go out through the right channel before the journalist’s deadline, with follow-up only where the platform and journalist welcome it.

  6. 06

    Coverage monitoring

We look for published articles, check how the source was credited and record the link type: followed, nofollow or mention only.

  7. 07

    Monthly reporting

A clear monthly report: every link secured, its source, DR and link type, and progress against your guaranteed minimum.

  8. What we never do

    • Buy placements or use PBNs
    • Send templated mass pitches
    • Promise named publications or anchors
    • Pitch outside your expertise

Our process

Speed, relevance and quality. In that order, every day.

Journalist outreach rewards whoever sends the most useful answer before the deadline. Here’s how a request becomes a response, and a response becomes a link.

  1. Every working day

    Daily monitoring

Journalist requests on HARO, Qwoted, Featured, Help a B2B Writer and niche networks are checked against your spokesperson profile.

    Your topicsYour markets

  2. Within hours

    Opportunity filtering

We keep only requests with clear topic relevance, a reputable outlet, genuine editorial intent and a realistic chance of selection.

  3. Before the deadline

    Writing the expert response

A concise, specific answer built to be quoted: helpful to the journalist first, written in your voice, with credentials the journalist can verify.

    Quote-readyNo templates

  4. Deadline → weeks later

    Submission & follow-through

Approved responses are submitted on time. We then watch for publication, verify each link and its DR, and count it toward your guaranteed minimum.

  • Expert-ledA named specialist, such as a head of product, a licensed practitioner or a lead engineer.
  • Brand-ledCompany-level data, observations and perspective, attributed to a named spokesperson.

  • Full reviewYou see every response before it goes out. Quick replies matter here.

We agree both during onboarding. Journalist deadlines are often measured in hours, so slow approvals cost opportunities.

Guarantees and limits

What we guarantee, and what stays with the editor.

We guarantee the minimum number of editorial backlinks. What we can’t promise is just as clear. You should know both before you spend a dollar.

What you get

What a HARO campaign guarantees and delivers

  • A guaranteed minimum of editorial linksEvery package has a link floor — 5+, 10+ or 30+ — all from DR 30+ websites, backed by our make-good policy.
  • High-authority placements built inEach campaign includes minimum links from DR 70+ domains and from sites with high monthly traffic.
  • Credible third-party mentionsBeing quoted by a journalist says more about your expertise than anything on your own website.
  • Permanent, earned linksEarned media only — no paid placements, no PBNs — and no ongoing fees once the campaign ends.
  • Material you can reusePublished quotes can support your About page, sales conversations and future media requests.

Editorial limits

What we still can’t promise

  • Specific publicationsWe guarantee the number and quality of links, not the outlet names. Editors decide who they quote.
  • Exact anchor textLinks are usually branded or URL-based, placed where the editor sees fit. That natural profile is the point.
  • The exact day a link goes liveArticles can go live days or weeks after a deadline. The minimum applies to the campaign, not to a given week.
  • Rankings or trafficEarned links support authority, but nobody can honestly guarantee where you’ll rank or how much traffic follows.
  • Quotes you wouldn’t stand behindYour real expertise sets the angle. We never invent credentials, claims or figures to win a placement.

If a target isn’t reached within the booked term, we keep working at no additional cost until it is. No refunds apply.

Strong pages give earned links something worth pointing to; earned coverage gives strong pages more authority. We usually recommend starting with an SEO package and adding Digital PR once the foundation is in place, or running both from the start if your site is already in good shape.

Platforms we monitor

Not just HARO. Wherever journalists ask.

Relying on a single platform is fragile; HARO itself went offline for several months in 2024–2025. We monitor several journalist-request services and focus on the requests where selection is realistic and worthwhile.

  • HARO

    Help a Reporter Out

The original journalist-source service, relaunched in 2025 by Featured.com as a free, email-based format.

  • Qwoted

    Expert-source marketplace

Reporters and producers post requests for named experts and commentary.

  • Featured

    Expert Q&A platform

Publishers source expert answers and quotes for articles across many industries.

  • Help a B2B Writer

    B2B source requests

Writers covering business, marketing, SaaS and professional topics look for practitioner input.

  • Niche networks

    Industry-specific requests

Smaller newsletters and communities where journalists in specific sectors look for sources.

Every request is filtered on

  1. 01Relevance to your genuine expertise
  2. 02Quality and audience of the outlet
  3. 03Clear editorial intent (not a disguised sales list)
  4. 04Competition level and realistic chance of selection
  5. 05A deadline we can meet properly

We don’t chase everything. Platform names are listed for clarity only: Bink Media is not affiliated with, endorsed by or a partner of any of these services.

Eligibility

Expertise matters. Journalist outreach rewards it.

We accept Digital PR clients when we believe journalists will genuinely want to hear from them. These are the four things we look for.

  • Real, demonstrable expertise

Hands-on experience in your field that a journalist can verify: role, credentials, years in practice, a body of work.

  • Willing to be quoted by name

Journalists quote people, not logos. Your spokesperson needs to be comfortable being named publicly with their title.

  • Responsive for approvals

Many requests close within hours. Someone needs to answer quick questions or approvals within a working day.

  • A real business website

An established, transparent website with clear ownership and contact details: somewhere a journalist can check you out.

Usually less suitable

  • Anonymous affiliate or content sites without a named expert
  • Health, finance or legal claims we can’t substantiate with credentials or sources
  • Businesses that want to stay out of the public eye
  • Brands without a clear area of expertise yet
  • Anyone needing specific publications, exact anchors or ranking guarantees

What we’ll ask you for

  • A short bio and headshot
  • Topics you can (and can’t) speak to
  • Facts, figures and opinions you’re happy to share
  • Your preferred approval mode and contact

Every enquiry starts with an expert eligibility review. If journalist outreach isn’t the right move for you yet, we’ll say so, and tell you what would change that.

HARO link building FAQ

Straight answers about HARO link building.

What is HARO link building?

HARO link building means answering journalists who are actively looking for expert sources. Reporters post requests ("queries") for quotes, commentary or examples; we find the requests that genuinely match your expertise, write a useful response in your voice and submit it before the deadline.

When a journalist uses your input, you are quoted in their article — usually with a link to your website. The name comes from HARO (Help a Reporter Out), the best-known of these platforms.

Is HARO still running?

Yes, in a new form. HARO was owned for years by Cision, which rebranded it as Connectively and then shut the service down in December 2024. Featured.com acquired HARO and relaunched it in April 2025 as a free, email-based service.

We also monitor comparable journalist-request platforms such as Qwoted, Featured and Help a B2B Writer, so a campaign never depends on a single source. Bink Media is not affiliated with HARO or any of these platforms.

Do you guarantee links?

Yes — a minimum number. Each package has a guaranteed link floor: 5+ (HARO Launch), 10+ (HARO Growth) or 30+ (HARO Dominance) editorial backlinks, all from DR 30+ websites, with minimums from DR 70+ domains and high-traffic sites. Because we work with real journalists, no one can promise an exact number on a specific day — but campaigns are designed to reach or exceed those floors.

If a campaign’s link targets aren’t reached within the booked term, we keep working at no additional cost until they are — or until further execution becomes unreasonable. No refunds apply.

What happens if the targets aren’t met within the campaign?

If a campaign’s link targets aren’t reached within the booked term, we keep working at no additional cost until they are — or until further execution becomes unreasonable. No refunds apply.

In practice that means you never pay extra to reach the link floor you booked.

Can you guarantee specific publications?

No. We guarantee the minimum number and quality of links, not the names of the outlets. Journalists and editors decide who they quote, and in which article. We prioritize the outlet types and audiences that matter most to you, and every link we report is a real editorial placement you can click.

Can I choose the anchor text?

No — not in genuine journalist outreach. Links are usually branded or URL links (your company name or domain), placed where the editor sees fit. That natural profile is exactly what makes earned links valuable. We report every link with its source, domain rating and link type.

How long does it take to see links?

It varies by publication. Some articles go live within days of a deadline; others are published weeks later, and journalists often don’t notify the sources they used. That’s why campaigns run for a fixed term of 3, 6 or 12 months, and why we track coverage continuously. The guaranteed minimum applies to the campaign as a whole, not to a particular week.

Is this approach safe for SEO?

Yes. Every link is earned media: a reporter independently decides to use your expertise. No paid placements, no private blog networks (PBNs), no link insertions and no link farms. Links are permanent, with no ongoing fees after the campaign. Earned links support your authority over time, but we never promise rankings or traffic — they work best alongside a healthy website and steady SEO work.

Do I need to approve every response?

You choose. During onboarding we build your spokesperson profile — credentials, topics you can speak to, approved facts and opinions — and agree an approval mode: fully managed within that profile, selective approvals (for example only new facts or figures), or full review before submission. Faster approvals mean more opportunities caught before their deadlines.

Who is HARO link building a good fit for?

Businesses with a real expert who is happy to be quoted by name: founders, executives and specialists in areas such as B2B and SaaS, professional services, home services, e-commerce, health and wellness (within what can be substantiated) and personal finance. It is less effective for anonymous affiliate sites, brands without a clear area of expertise, or anyone unwilling to be named publicly.

How is Digital PR different from SEO?

SEO improves your own website so search engines can understand, trust and rank it — content, technical health, internal links. Digital PR earns mentions and links on other people’s websites through journalists. SEO is our primary service and the foundation; HARO link building adds outside authority on top. See our SEO services or the SEO packages.

Are you affiliated with HARO or the other platforms?

No. Bink Media is an independent agency. We use journalist-request platforms the same way any expert source can, and we follow each platform’s rules. We don’t buy placements, and no platform or journalist is paid by us to feature our clients.

Do you work with agencies?

Yes. Agencies can resell the same HARO packages — with the same guaranteed link minimums — under their own brand, with client-ready reporting. See white-label HARO for agencies.
